When smart matters: Bringing digital technologies to life in industry and finance

Team d-fine, d-fine, Frankfurt am Main

Abstract:

While recent years have seen an unparalleled rise of new technologies and large technology firms such as Google, Amazon, and Netflix, the financial sector and many parts of the manufacturing industry have taken a long time to adapt to the pace of these developments. This is currently changing however, and new digital technologies have started to transform these industries as well. Examples include distributed ledger technologies or microservice architectures built on new technologies, which are iteratively adopted by many players in the market to replace existing IT systems or are an essential new part of the business model. This means that the focus has shifted from complex quantitative models, their implementation and the regulatory requirements surrounding them, to more technological topics revolving around the question of how the use of these models can be supported by a modern IT landscape which not only accommodates current requirements but also fits the business model in the long run. This industry transformation requires a particular skillset, which not only includes analytical and quantitative know-how, but also an increasingly sophisticated technological knowledge and mindset to be able to apply it to large-scale industry solutions. In this year's lecture series, d-fine will present several examples from our project work of how these technological trends are affecting our economy in different areas in the finance and manufacturing industries.
