Precision Physics with Antimatter

Christian Smorra and Andreas Mooser, CERN, Geneva

Abstract:

High-precision measurements of the fundamental properties of particles and antiparticles test the invariance under the most-fundamental symmetry in quantum field theories, the combined charge, parity and time reversal (CPT) symmetry. In this lecture, we will introduce concepts of CPT-violating interactions and the experimental techniques to set constraints on these effects. This covers the production and trapping of particles and antiparticles at low energy, the spectroscopy techniques, and modern experiments which actively participate in this research field.
