Statistics for Particle and Astroparticle Experiments

Kyle Cranmer, New York University

The final presentation of results in particle and astrophysics is typically a statistical statement. I will review and comment on the most common procedures used by these communities. I will touch on how the practices are influenced by the presence (or absence) of a concrete predictive model, various types of uncertainties, and issues of multiple testing. I will finish with comments on new methodologies from the statistics, machine learning, and data science communities with a view towards the future.
