Presenting Research Results

Ute Leidig, Heidelberg University

Abstract:

An important part in research is presenting your results. This two day course helps doctoral students to prepare for the presentation of their research in seminars, at conferences or for their disputation. Participants bring their own presentations in order to work on the following topics:

  • How do I structure my talk to make it more effective?
  • What do I have to bear in mind in order to address my audience most effectively?
  • What do I have to consider regarding nonverbal behaviour?
  • How can I improve my presentation skills through feedback?
The course is a workshop, which means that participants are actively involved. During the course some participants will have the opportunity to give a presentation on their research topic. By giving and receiving feedback participants will realize the strengths and weaknesses of the presentations and will improve their individual presentation competence. Participants should be aware that this course is not a language training, but that it focuses on presentation techniques. However, there will be plenty of time to practice English. The workshop will spread over four days. The participants should be prepared to do some homework during these days.

Due to the workshop character, the number or participants is limited to 14. As many students are usually interested in participating in this course, we kindly request that you inform us immediately if you have to cancel your participation after registration.
