An introduction to chiral perturbation theory

Ulf Meißner, University of Bonn and FZ Jülich

Chiral perturbation theory perturbation theory is the effective field theory of the Standard Model at low energies. In these lectures, I will discuss the underlying concepts and some specific applications. The following topics will be addressed:

- Effective field theory

- Symmetries of QCD and their realization

- Effective chiral Lagrangian and power counting

- Unitarity and dispersive representation

- Goldstone boson and quark masses

- Pion-pion and pion-kaon scattering

- Chiral perturbation theory and lattice QCD
