Nuclear Renaissance - Myth or Reality?

Alexander Weiss and André Schnidrig, McKinsey and Company

After over 20 years, nuclear power made it back to the press and into the public debate. Even Western European countries again consider nuclear power as a viable option to secure their electricity demand. Countries as diverse as UK, China, or South Africa are launching massive programs to build 20-60 GW of new nuclear reactors in the next 10-20 years. In total there might be investments of up to 900 billion EUR globally until 2030. In this lecture we would like to discuss with you from a business perspective our view about the underlying drivers, the potential roadblocks, and if we ultimately see the dawn of a nuclear renaissance.
