Sanam Vardag, Heidelberg University

Abstract:

Current climate change is caused by mankind and thus it is mankind who needs to act to limit climate change and its consequences for the Earth and its inhabitants. In this course we will summarize our current understanding of the climate system and the physical basics of the carbon cycle. We will talk about the scientific challenges, which we face in studying the climate system and we will touch on the societal impact climate change and science can and should have to foster effective climate action. Focus will be on:
- The carbon cycle and its current changes
- Measurements and modelling of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere
- Climate action science - a holistic approach to make climate data actionable
