Antonino Di Piazza, Max-Planck-Institut für Kernphysik

Abstract:

1) QED in vacuum

1.a) Introduction on Lagrangian field theory and second quantization
1.b) S-matrix in QED and basic processes in QED at tree level
1.c) Radiative corrections (electron and photon self energy, vertex correction)
1.d) Short account on regularization and renormalization in QED

2) QED in the presence of intense background fields

2.a) General approach to strong-field QED and the Furry picture
2.b) The case of a background laser field: Volkov states
2.c) Analysis of various QED processes in the presence of an intense laser field (nonlinear Compton scattering, nonlinear Breit-Weehler pair production etc...)
2.d) Short account on processes occurring in other background fields: the case of a constant magnetic field and of a Coulomb field
