Analyzing Personal Potential for your Career

Ute Leidig, Heidelberg University

Abstract:

The key to a successful career lies in careful planning, so that you find the position that best matches your skills and values and that utilizes your analytical capabilities. In this course we use questionnaires, group discussions, personal reflection and elements from the assessment center process to provide you with insights about your interests, skills, qualifications and personality. You will learn about your strengths and how to articulate them when applying for a job.

The course content will be as follows:

  • Working out a competence profile: knowledge, methodical and key competencies, personal strengths and weaknesses
  • Assessment Center: Overview; criteria and performance in regard to typical exercises; group exercise (role-play) with feedback
  • Comparison of self-image and the way others perceive us
  • Self-presentation in the application process, creating success stories
  • Development of a personal milestone plan
The workshop helps you to become aware of your personal strengths and weaknesses. The course combines short inputs on various topics with individual reflection on personal experiences as well as discussions and interactive parts in small groups. You will explore new ways of behavior (e.g. through role play) and receive feedback on the impression you make on other people.
